Tuesday Watts : Top OECS Sportswoman for 2005

Congratulations to Grenada's swimming queen Tuesday Watts retaining her title achieved in 2004 as the OECS Female Sports Personality of 2005.

Watts has done her country proud by winning 13 gold medals in regional meets,
setting seven OECS records and being named the OECS Female Sports
Personality.Tuesday topped the list of female athletes, followed by St Lucia’s
high jump star Lavern Spencer and St Kitts-Nevis 400m runner Tiandra Ponteen.

It's quite exciting to see Tuesday continue to reap regional accolades. Grenada's swim team is really up-and-coming with strong, young, female swimmers like Watts, Melissa Ashby (who represented Grenada at the 2004 Olympics) and Samantha LaQua. Just watching these girls compete inspires all Grenadians to dream of international medal ceremonies! And as a woman, it's both humbling and awe-inspiring to see these little kids (Watts is only 14 I think) undergoing the serious physical training and excercising the mental and emotional desire to win big. When I was their age, no one in Grenada swam competitively at all. In fact, in my day the only sports that girls participated in were basic track and netball, maybe tennis occassionally. Nowadays it is not unusual to see little girls at football practice, or volleying on the tennis courts, or swimming laps at the Good Hope pool, or drilling on the basketball courts.Wait until Little YingYang reach up dey on de podium in de 2016 Olympics. Allyuh better be cheering for her loud loud!
